Vanichi Editors pick David Adjaye Prism for Knoll as a perfect way to infuse your home with some new year creative inspiration.

Completing his Washington Collection, David Adjaye Prism for Knoll is the an exploration of weight and mass designed by the British-Ghanaian architect. Comprising three lounge pieces—Lounge Chair, Ottoman and Side Table—Prism joins previous designs by Adjaye—Washington Skeleton Aluminum Side Chair, Washington Skin Nylon Side Chair and Washington Corona Coffee Table—completing The Washington Collection for Knoll. Each form consists of a glossy core laminate shell—available in red, white or black—which appears in contrast with the softness of the upholstered surfaces on the lounge chair and ottoman. The Side Table is available in five marble top finishes: Arabescato, Calacutta, Nero, Marquina and Verdi Alpi.

“With Prism, I was seeking something very different. I wanted to reference the weight and mass of the idea of monument and I sought to celebrate the material presence of these forms.”  David Adjaye

The various forms of Prism are drawn from the numerous ways geometries occupy and don’t occupy space. Their presence and absence equally informed the collection. Adjaye also plays with our ideas of heft and mass by crafting his Lounge Chair to swivel with the ease of a lightweight chair and creating an Ottoman that can easily fit into any space.

Adjaye won the Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts in 2016.
