To celebrate half a century of world renowned Platner design recognition, Knoll has created a Knoll-Platner golden 50th anniversary special edition. The iconic line, such as the Platner Coffee Table “42 and Platner Stool, will be presented in an 18-karat gold-plated finish. Platner Coffee Table. When the original collection was introduced in 1966 by Warren Platner, the technology didn’t exist to plate the myriad cylindrical steel rods and welds. Yet, Platner had always wanted the pieces to be gold-plated. Now, all of the pieces, with the exception of the Easy Chair, will be available in this special edition finish. Platner Stool in 18-karat gold-plate. Warren Platner graduated from Cornell University in 1941 with a degree in architecture. He worked with top architects Raymond Loewy, Eero Saarinen, and I. M. Pei and designed the Georg Jensen Design Center in New York. When he came to work with Knoll, his reputation spread even further. Platner designed the complicated production techniques utilized to create the detailed designs.
