[VM] You’ve been enjoying a long, illustrious career in modeling. What are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned along the way?

[MH] I’ve learned that you have to constantly work hard, be humble, grateful, and always true to yourself. Believe anything is possible and most of all believe in yourself. Don’t worry so much about what others think of you but keep your eyes, mind, and heart open. Have determination, persevere, and don’t be afraid to fail. It’s all part of success.

[VM] How do you express yourself creatively?

[MH] I express myself creatively through my work. One of the things I value the most about being a model is having the ability to bring my own or someone else’s vision into the world using my body, expressions, and emotions. It’s usually a collaboration with the entire team. I personally feel that connecting and creating with others is a wonderful experience that I could not live without.

[VM] What is your definition of modern luxury?

[MH] My definition of luxury is actually quite simple and a little old fashioned. Having a beautiful, welcoming and comfortable home to return to after my travels, delicious food, good wine, great friends, beautiful fashion, and of course a cute handbag (wink) is all I really need to feel luxurious.

[VM] What was the first thing you ever splurged on? Why did you buy it?

[MH] In my late teens, I bought my first car. It was expensive but beautiful, powerful, and sexy. It was a Volvo S60R fully loaded with 300hp, turbo charged with all wheel drive, low profile tires and hot red. I fell in love with this car during the test drive and had to have it.

[VM] What’s one of the most sentimental things you own?

[MH] My Grandmother gave me an inexpensive tear drop necklace on a gold chain a few years before she passed away. It reminds me of all the beautiful memories we shared and how precious family is. I cherish her necklace and hope to someday pass it down to my future children.

[VM] What humanitarian efforts do you support and why?

[MH] I support all humanitarian efforts. People doing whatever they can wherever they can. There are so many people in need I personally can’t just choose a few. In my own little ways I have done my best to support things like breast cancer awareness (my mom is a 26 year survivor), endangered species, feeding the homeless, animal cruelty, health education such as meditation, clean eating and more.

As for why, it’s simple. We need to help, love and take care of each other. We are all in this life and on this earth together. Also for selfish reasons. Have you ever noticed how amazing you feel when you give? That’s because love is part of being human. Each person’s support, no matter how small, makes a difference and might just inspire others to do the same.

[VM] How has travel expanded your view of yourself and your place in this world?

[MH] Traveling has had a profound impact on the person I am today. I highly suggest to everyone to travel to as many places as you can as often as you can. The opportunities I’ve had to explore the world, experience different cultures, indulge in different foods, arts, music, and life styles has made me realize how very small I am and how blessed I am. There are so many incredible people out there. My view has expanded and grown to a place of knowing that the possibilities are endless and every person in the world has something amazing to offer. Including myself, beyond just my career.

[VM] What is your dream?

[MH] My dreams are constantly growing, changing and evolving with each new experience but my biggest dream is to open a non profit veterinary hospital and/or charity. In addition to that, I feel as if I’m already living my dream. The dream of experiencing everything life has to offer, always exploring the world and myself, having amazing adventures, and hopefully inspiring others along the way.
